Strategy vs Product
I’m at mid level of my career and working with a fintech lending startup in business strategy domain Brief: Engineer turned MBA from tier-1 college
Need a long term view as which vertical will be better in future in terms of career growth and opportunities and also compensation.

Is it a very easy switch at this stage for you?
I think some points for consideration:
-
Strategy can be slightly vague, while PMs switching across verticals is more common: Being a Growth PM for one startup, another startup could be interested in you. For strategy, I think over time you might get confined to the vertical (finance) - so that’s something to consider
-
I think compensation wise - I’ve seen PMs plateauing in terms of salary after X number of years (unless you go to big tech etc.) Not sure if this is a function of the current market. Strategy - could eventually try to get into larger/smaller companies that could compensate a lot
-
What do you think you’ll enjoy doing more?
-
Given you already seem to be doing quite well in life; is a switch really needed? Only if you’re bored of the work you do right now.
