Story Update: Why does this happen to me?
I went to party with colleagues last week and I complimented someone on their dress. She made a big tantrum about how that was inappropriate. But on the other hand, when our boss made the same comment but even more crass then she was very jovial and upbeat.
What did I do wrong here? Have you seen this double standard happen too at TCS?

I'm assuming this is a rhetorical question.

@Samaltman How is it rhetorical? I mean it truly.

Buddy, the answer is there in your question itself. Why do you think she reacted differently to you but not your boss. Clearly, there is some assumption about getting into his good books for reasons I don't need to explain.

I saw Mohammad Kaif's interview, explaining how he met her wife in a cafe. She was sitting with one her friend(according to kaif) and kaif went instantly and give her compliment about beautiful she's looking. Then she asked kaif to sit with them and later things turned into marriage.
Well you need to understand that for such compliments you need to rich or very influential. A common man can't think of such things other wise get ready for POSH

Giving a compliment to women who is not your friend just an acquaintance is never a good idea. You can never say what will be their reaction.
Every men should avoid for any serious damage to their job, self esteem, self respect.
But still you want to do it then complimenting them for their work, intelligence, or for some skill like leadership, any poetry, etc. Is good but not on their appearance let their closed ones do it for them.

@Borbonn I can understand why. Some people are way too opportunistic.

@70hr_worker Basically it comes to the Power dynamic between the lady and your boss vs the lady and you. In an unequal Power dynamic it's the person with lesser Power will compromise on certain aspects of a relationship for their long term benefit.

@Deepthink I agree with this. I don't trust her.

The boss is using his power to gain attention thats it
He knows that she would hesitate in calling him out
While bashing another coworker requires lesser resistance

@StanleyHudson Exactly, I feel that she will not hesitate to throw me under the bus for this.

Don't be a philosopher until you are rich Don't be a complimenter until you are influential

Enjoy the POSH case ðŸ˜
