Startup Rant + How to switch jobs from a seed to post IPO?
I have been working in growth and marketing roles (in startups) since the last 8 years. Honestly, I am sick of working in startups as I have seen founders being extremely insecure, indecisive and eventually pleasing investors. Within a few years, I don't see the company working on the founder's vision - instead we end of working on the investor's vision. While I appreciate what VCs have been able to do for the Indian Startup ecosystem, I don't subscribe to the whim of founders clearly submitting to the vision of investors. I don't think even VCs do in the first place.
Moreover, I don't think founders appreciate the importance of being employees themselves. If one is a sharp operator, they can oftentimes learn from other's mistakes. I haven't seen founders doing that in their tunnel vision. Hence, within a few years of inception, entrepreneurs tend to lose track of what set out to do. Don't get me wrong, I used to appreciate the delusion and laser sharp focus on real world solutions - I just don't see founders around me appreciating that.
Finally, startups come with chaos. When I was younger, I used to love startups for the same. But, as I see the journey from Seed to Series A to Series B, I have seen that chaos ends up becoming the mediocrity that founders bask in. Chaos cannot or must not hinder change and that - unfortunately - ends up becoming the harsh reality of startups.
Since a couple of years, I have been thinking of switching to a more structured and stable set up. That's why been thinking of switching jobs and moving to at least a post-IPO org. I don't have the Tier 1 institute background but I know that I can be a sharp first-principled, empathetic builder with emotional intelligence as the leverage to understand both - consumer and the team.
Any advice on how to make this switch towards a post-ipo org in consumer tech?

Since you have so much of experience (8+ years) what is stopping you from making the switch via referrals? Does college tag matters at this point too 🤔
