No amt of startups can bridge this gap. All the major industrial groups spanning across sectors have to pour money vs licensing to manfacture/trading models, and university PG programs toned up to solve long range problems vs teaching shops for UG which even iits have become

Govt spending has a big role to play. Koramangala VCs have scant interest or knowledge to invest in a high temp brake material or the next battery chemistry 😹

My suggestion is convert most of the iits ( which have best labs and faculty ) into iisc type primarily PG instts in engg and tone up the IISERs for basic sciences which is bedrock of engg. NITs , state colleges and privates can act as feeder schools to iits PG for those genuinely interested in engg. Rest can take the usual exit ramps to industry, mba, ms …
