Software developer salary in bear market
What should be the salary range in the current market for Software developers to build sustainable profitable companies in the current bear market ?
SDE-2 at 12LPA?
Is this CHWTIA salary range? Even Infy offers 9.5L right out of college.
Product companies will continue to offer much better salaries.
Entry to SDE2 , 1-2 yrs experience
Unless the leveling is rather weak, or the candidate is exceptional, I don't see anyone becoming SDE-2 before 1.5yoe
You'll have the expectations that the person you're promoting would've taken a few projects from design to deployment while holding up good engineering standards.
To get to this, one needs to grind out a fair bit of code.
And you don't always get the best work. Duh. There are times when the projects are amazing, otherwise when it is KTLO work.
Domain and system knowledge also kicks in. Knowing different services (co-)owned by the team, the type of interfaces for interaction, scopes, data pipelines, etc. At least a holistic view is required.
If that's not present, and say the project team comes to you for a new feature, the EM won't give you 2 junior devs and trust you to take the lead on the project, will she?
And if such skills are present in a developer, they ought to be paid for it.
