Soft Dev (~4.4 YOE) considering IIM Indore ( Exec MBA). Confused if it’s worth it.
Hi everyone, I’m at a bit of a crossroads and would really value some grounded opinions.
I’m 27, currently working as a software developer with ~4.4 years of experience. Things are stable career-wise, but I’ve been thinking long-term and feel that if I ever want to pursue an MBA, now is probably the last realistic window. Tentatively, I’ll be married by end of next year or early 2027, and I know myself well enough to admit that starting something as demanding as an MBA after that will be extremely difficult.
Because of this, I started exploring online / weekend MBA-style programs from reputed institutions, mainly for structured learning, exposure, and the brand value. One program that stood out is IIM Indore’s Masters in Management Studies (MMS), which is essentially an Executive MBA with weekend classes and a fairly rigorous curriculum.
Here’s where the dilemma kicks in:
It’s not a full-time MBA, so I’m unsure about the real-world value compared to traditional programs.
The workload is heavy and will run alongside a full-time tech job.
The fees and time commitment are significant, so opportunity cost is real.
On the upside, it gives me a Tier-1/1.5 IIM tag, formal management education, and I don’t have to quit my job.
My goals are still evolving. I’m not trying to pivot immediately into consulting or hardcore management, but I do want broader business understanding, leadership exposure, and optionality for future roles. I’m also aware that some people see executive/online MBAs as “not worth it,” while others say they’re valuable if you know why you’re doing them.
So my questions to this community:
Is an Executive/online MBA from a top IIM actually worth it at this stage of career?
Does the brand + learning justify the cost and effort, or is this just FOMO before marriage?
Would you recommend waiting, skipping MBA altogether, or going all-in only for full-time programs?
Looking for honest opinions, especially from people who’ve done executive MBAs, hired MBA grads, or faced similar timing/life-stage decisions.
Thanks in advance.
