Social respect of a Software Developer
I often wonder if as a software developer, I'm not making much of a difference in the society. Sure, our company as a whole makes an impact, but individually, it feels like we don't have any visual effect in society.
When I see doctors getting so much respect and making such a big impact, or when I notice the good deeds of IAS/IPS/ Army Officers, I can't help but question what I'm contributing to society except paying taxes which too are eaten up by corrupt politicians. 🥲

Ah, you can still contribute buddy. This is what open source is for! That's how you make an impact in this field

In Society we are not contributing much but software developers have good salaries. People buying homes, first car, traveling all feels good. Lower middle class kids are able to give their parents good life and this is something very special. 💫

My uncle is a businessman, has small scale setup for manufacturing kitchenware.
Once sarcastically remarked seeing me working on laptop at home,
Beta terey laptop mey na kuch andar jata, na tu usmey se kuch bahar ata, tunkarta kya hey?

Haha that was a good one. Even I have encountered such relatives 🤣🤣

But never look for external validation, do it for yourself.

In general none of our work actually impacts the society at large. Make peace with that.
Does that mean it never does — clearly not.
