So someone posted about us here recently so let us introduce ourselves

We're the team behind https://thesocial.company. this is a passion project for us and not a company in the conventional sense where we want people to come out in the real world and co-create experiences with real people. We're just starting out, so do let us know what you think. Cheers!!

Isn’t this what grapevine is all about?

SnoozyPotato
SnoozyPotato

Even grapevine needs asks for a phone number, internally everything can be tracked back to you unless you have a number which can in no way be associated to you. privacy is a myth unless you are paying for it

They hash and salt the number bruv. They’ve confirmed it multiple times.

hey, I'm from the team- we are about experimentation. Try, fellas, once. Not through this, but experiment with who you are. It's fun. But yeah, we totally get it, this is a big ask in zuck's world.

I work at a social media company and like the idea of connecting ppl offline. It does concern me as well that people are spending more and more of their time online v/s in person. my 2 cents on this project as a business idea

  1. ppl spend time online to a) connect with people they already know personally b) get informed/entertained by ppl they don’t know personally. activity based social connects in the real world already happen via the extended friends and family network. if you’re solving for those who can’t and are looking for activity partners, you’re either solving for dating or for specific verticals (sports, travel, arts, music, dance, etc.). so, effectively you’re either becoming a community of x enthusiasts, the meet-ups app, or the headout/insider app.

  2. if you’re thinking of this just a project for now and not a business that scales, think of just 2-3 verticals where there’s a strong need and double down on them. some that I can identify - sports (finding a squash buddy), travel (finding a travel group for trekking/diving/etc.), learning(finding a partner to read/study with), etc.

sorry for the long unsolicited advice. I really want to see success in this field as I love the outdoors and real world

Okay, that's very well articulated advice. Thanks for taking the time out to pen it down. Appreciate it :)

Now, we're not solving for activities. Activities or the experiences that people co-create is just a way to inculcate the feeling of exploration in people. We genuinely, with all our heart want people to come out and try something new. Kinda like we did this whole thing, something new, an experiment. We'll fuck around and we'll find out. And that's what we want people to do and we understand that people will be hesitant and this might not go viral and take off and we're absolutely fine with it. If we can even get x amount to get out, show up and try something new and find out an insight about themself. We think they'll feel a fundamental change in themself and theyll be more open to the world and more importantly, to themselves.

We love talking about this because answering questions like these help us give our thoughts a structure. We'd love to get in a proper conversation if you're up. We are at hello@thesocial.company

What'd you think about the website and everything?

🫥 how does this work again ? @randommodnar checked the website but can't figure out what it is ? And what i get from the website is that you guys like host events that I'll get invite too?

FloatingCupcake
FloatingCupcake
Student20mo

We don't host events per se, we co-create experiences and that's our way of saying that we want you, me and other people to come together and explore whatever the fuck we all want. Been itching to go swimming, let's do it, wanna try painting, let's get our hands dirty, want to discuss a book that you've recently, let's get all the bibliophiles that signed up or might be interested fired up. Look man at the end of the day we just want people to come out and explore, who they are who they might want to be. In the real world, around real people. This genuinely is for people, at least we want it to be.
Thank you for asking my man, really appreciate your interest, means a lot.

Signing up right now, but what about location ? 🙋🏻 Isn't that going to be an issue, say i can't find people near my location that are interested in that activity ? The problem seems pressing enough but then how does this differentiate from events/gatherings. Well fuk it, might as well find what is it all about after signing up ✌️✌️

Your vision sounds interesting . But honestly , not clear on the execution part Get it ..that you are saying experimenting and all that ( assuming experimenting on solution side only and not problem side ). what are the specific problems you are going to solve , and how are you going to solve. Website does not have clear messaging around that . ( assuming your team is clear on that)
Build some use cases. All the best

FloatingCupcake

That's good feedback. We'll add some clear actionables that we expect people to do
