So much pressure that having Panic Attack + Anxiety + Vomiting at Work...

I am working in Goldman for quite some time now. From Day 1 there is a lot of pressure, no time for a proper onboarding or gradual bringing me up to speed. I am running at a 100 kmph from Day 1 working 14-15 hrs a day.

Work life Balance? More like Work is Life Balance. Haven't seen sunlight in last 2 years, weekends I am working so that I don't get fucked on a Monday. In case you think that this is just my case then No. I know many peers who are working 24/7/365 so that they are on track for a nice promo.

The problem is that I don't get to spend enough time with my girl. I don't get time to speak to my la familia. I don't get time to speak to my childhood friends.

I don't have time. The situation has gotten so worse that the pressure is becoming too much to handle. The expectations of others on me have ballooned and I have racing heartbeats at night and cold sweats. I end up overthinking and scrolling Reddit/Grapevine a lot. I have even puked 2-3 times in the last 4 months because of Anxiety.

Is anyone feeling the same in Tech?

You deserve this. You never turn back on family. NEVER.

On your death bed, you will regret not spending enough time with your family. Also, this kind of culture not only affects your health but overall atmosphere of your home, one thing you can never purchase with money is TIME, and in the end the most valuable time spent is time that is being spent with the family.

Just take a one week off, try and reasses the situation, the reason now these days we accept BS culture, we want to retire early, we want to earn this much money etc etc stuff, but this is not sustainable. Just take a break, breathe and reasses, life’s priorities. Something will never come back.

Feels like it’s the same story I went through recently at one of the unicorns. My fiancé is a psychiatrist and she told me about how detrimental it would be in the long term. This hustle culture is not at all good . And hence we decided that I should quit my job. Currently on a break and enjoying it though I don’t have a lot of savings but I realised how good it is for my mental health.

You're omitting something. It's generally not that serious.

And if it is, what's the worst that'll happen if you don't deliver? They'll PIP you? Good. Now you can prepare.

I worked that way, for almost an year. 14 hour days in office, absolutely limited contact even with roommates. Always anxious about the next update. Didn't help me at all. I learnt a fuck-ton of things about AI which is fine, but now in hindsight, could I have handled it better? Probably. Could've cared less, prepared properly and left earlier.

Trust me buddy, the moment you resign, they will quickly figure out your replacement and suddenly all the work you did and all the time you gave to them wont matter at all as they will find someone else to grind. Keep everything balanced ! If you are working your ass off then do remember to ask for huge bonus/ increment, else why are you even working that much compromising with your family time and personal life. Just bcz of that GS tag, seriously. You need to get your priorities right !
