Single folks: what are some good ideas to enable single people to meet?

I have a lot of single friends - some girls and guys. Been thinking about throwing a party to get people to meet. Any ideas to make it interesting? Also, how to ensure the folks that get invited are somewhat relevant / relatable to the others - e.g. would inviting 22 year olds and 38 year olds in the same party be a bad idea? if you are one of the invitees what would you expect and would you be willing to split the bill of the party?

No alcohol since it involves lot of security issues
Fun activity to break the ice -Make sure that introduction of people is easy and less effort taking, else if it like you have to go and introduce yourself to random people then only extroverts will be able to do that. Totally defying the purpose of the meet up.

Totally makes sense. What I'd suggest is, find ideas online or among friends on what to do in house warming etc. Then create a poll and ask them what they would want in such a party. Go on and do it!
