Should you be honest or nah?
I'm about to leave my first role, and wanted to understand strategy you folks use during exit interviews

Just be politically right and get the hell out of that place

My exit interview for MS was done by a contractor. I was brutally honest. I wouldn't sweat it too much unless you named names

Is there a threshold you cross from, "this sucks and I wish I could say something without that honesty being used against me" to "this sucks for the people under me but their HR complaints don't impact my performance"? Is that a Director level or??

Don’t. Be nice. Do not burn bridges, not worth it.

Don't be honest. Just take an exit on good terms. Don't say anything bad (no way they would like to improve - so it doesn't make sense)
Process -> Habits -> ongoing issues.
(your input won't help to break this).

IMO, honest but respectfully

It’s important to not burn any bridges. So how much ever feedback you can give without hurting your relationship with the old team is the way to go
