There are ways to be connected and yet restrict access and remain invisible. If it comes to that, people should use that kind of privacy option.
I believe my corporate connections can NEVER be a part of my personal life. Ever. Yes it's not black and white, some other people are lucky. But I strictly keep them away and isolated from my personal life.

Can't avoid if they ask to add you in your face and until you do that, they don't leave your desk. Best option is to hide them from Stories.
