Should I stay in my current role for a Europe trip or switch to a new team now?

I recently came very close to landing a role with an FMCG company in Austria. They were even ready to sponsor my visa, but since I only have 2.8 years of experience, they decided it wasn’t viable at this stage. I’m honestly devastated by this because working in Europe was a huge goal for me.

Right now, I’m feeling a bit demotivated and weighing two options:

  1. Stay in my current role as an Application Security Engineer. If I do, I’ll likely get to go to Europe for about 2 months on a work trip, which would give me some international exposure.

  2. Move internally to another team working in Data Engineering. This would give me a chance to pivot into a high-demand field, but I would miss out on the Europe trip (at least for now).

My question: should I stick it out in my current role, take the Europe trip, and then consider moving to Data Engineering afterward? Or should I move into Data Engineering right now and focus on building long-term skills, even if that means giving up the short-term opportunity to work in Europe?
