Should I leave the country?

I get paid top dollar at a job with good work/life balance (1.8CR/year pretax)

I have an offer to move to another country, at the same seniority, to a larger company, for approx. 4 CR/year pretax.

Even after accounting for taxes and higher cost of living, I will save more in the new job. But the new job will most definitely mean more work. But it’s also more exciting because it’s a new environment. But I’ll also have to uproot my life and leave my friends behind.

What would you choose?

I don’t know my wife can survive that long in another country. I can probably do 4 years and build a good nest egg of 8-10 CR. But I get your sentiment.

Go outside and try it at least. If it doesn't work out you can always come back.

I’ll have to string my partner along. Also, if I come back too early, I feel like my career story makes less sense (too many switches that seem opportunistic).

But what I’m thinking is that if I keep a set period in mind, I can power through the hard times, because it’ll only be one of x days I have to survive.

Career story can have ups and downs, it's not a fairy tale lol. Gotta take risks sometimes. No one's going to judge you for coming back early even if you do.

The ones that do aren't worth your time anyways.

I’ll make a decision by next week and let you all know what I’ve decided, thank you for your perspectives!

Assuming you would be married with kid, moving to new country should be based on kid's education and future prospects.

If its USA, then don't go, 4cr not worth compared to 1.8cr in India as your kid will never be a citizen and you will always risk losing everything and coming back if you oppose "certain" things taught in schools there (recent trend)

On the other hand if its european country, please move as you can be citizen and its not easy to throw you out of country that easily.

Leave before you get stuck here, than you would be counting excuses like next big growth, home food, family etc

It's really more of a personal decision, kids and parents will play a major role and you've already mentioned your wife is not too keen. Plan it out well either way, and all the best

You've not mentioned the other side of the equation. Are there ageing parents involved? Would you have to learn a new language? Does the spouse work? Absent these factors, the decision to move and then evaluate years later seems the correct one.
