Trending @Infosys; Should I join a start-up?
Hi Grapeviners,
I want to seek your advice on whether it would be a wise decision to join a <year old start-up? I have been at Infosys for 2.5 yrs with no hike and not much support from my seniors in terms of my career aspirations. It's very frustrating. I feel there's no one at infosys to listen to what my career aspirations are. I started giving interviews a few months ago. Some of them I couldn't clear, some simply told me 90 days NP is too much for them. Finally I have an offer from a start-up who agrees to the NP and also offering 40% hike. The start-up primarily works on the tool that I work on at Infosys so I am excited with the possibility of getting a lot of exposure while working on different kinds of projects there. This was missing at Infosys. They put me on a support project and despite having spent quite some time on the support project and me asking them to release me they're not willing to do so and put me on a project which will give me more exposure. I genuinely want to join the start-up but getting second thoughts on the kinds of risk involved like not getting salaries timely or termination in case they stop getting funds etc. I am married and hence not sure if I should take this risk. Please share your thoughts.

If you are confident of your skill set join it. Take the risk of getting fired and finding another job. There is a reason infy can give you job security - they will do all kind of crap projects as long as there is billing. At startup there is no such luxury. Limited projects / initiatives if they fail you are out.

I would rather say please join the startup but don't settle down there instead keep looking for a company who requires your skill set giving you more job security
Yes. I hope 90 days NP will also give me time to appear for more interviews and secure a better opportunity. Companies are eager for immediate joiners.

True I was also on paper till last month and the immediate hiring game is mainly played in last 15-20 days...my friend was giving interviews till 2nd last day of Infosys and finalized the new job on the very last day at Infosys selection 1 out of 15+
