Should government give basic necessities to laid off citizens?

While Indian government reaps and enjoys the taxation of high paid IT jobs, there are hardly any responsibility in taking care of laid off citizens. I’m pretty sure most high paid individuals are irritated with the 10s of lacs of tax paid every year and yet not getting basic benefits from the government. No wonder so many HNIs leave India every year and settle in nations where high earning is nurtured and not abused.

In my honest opinion, Indian government should do the following for laid off individuals based on their previous year tax collected.

  1. Provide Rent + Basic necessities cost for at least 6 months or joining the next job, whichever is earlier.
  2. Provide health insurance to laid off citizen and dependent individuals for at least 1 year or till the person joins next job, whichever is earlier.
  3. Pause Home loan EMIs for at least 6 months or till the person joins next job, whichever is earlier.

Get a company registered, hire people you know, fire them, share the money you get from the government among each other. Paisa paisa

On a serious note, the government is not responsible for private companies laying people off. Also, this could lead to so many potential frauds that would be hard to track.

Is the government not responsible for social welfare of it’s citizen? Then what exactly is the role of a government?

Yes, ideally it should, but it will be necessary to build a national economic system capable of affording and supporting such kind of a scheme.

All the above already being provided, to the poor. If extended to middle class, then nobody will go to any work. Contractors will create a fake company and hire and fire people and collect commission. The government should remove all and every freebie being offered. Including reservation..

Ideally the government's priority in a country like ours is welfare for the underprivileged sections of the society. In a country like ours where the government still can't fix basic roads and other necessities, it is just a lot to ask for.

Layoffs at Bain India. At least 100+ people will be affected

Heard from people I know at Bain that they are laying off. This is mostly the first time an MBB is doing layoffs (earlier they would silently fire, or delay onboarding)

A friend got impacted. Seems like this could be 10-15% of their...

Paying 29L as tax this year!!

I just want to vent out! Many businesses are earning double than me and paying less than 50% of tax and yet here I am as a professional bound to pay tax. And that’s not enough, I still can get audited!
