ServiceNow interview is shit 💩
I just finished an interview with ServiceNow for a senior software engineer role and writing this up.
Anger rushed through my body after finishing the interview for multiple reasons.
reasons:
- The interviewer joined 10 minutes late and he was very lethargic.
- The questions he asked regarding my current job were very basic and then I realized that he should be fresher or should have 2 - 3 years of experience.
- After the interview I checked his profile on LinkedIn and he was a 2021 graduate (as I guessed).
- I don't understand why an organization assigns software engineers (2.5 YOE) as interviewers for hiring a senior software engineer(8+ YOE). It doesn't make sense to me.
- Then the interviewer asked a basic DSA question, and I gave him the solution, now he was not familiar with the Python language hence intrigued about the implementation of the heapify in Python. I explained to him how Heapify works but still, he could not understand what it is.
- The part I got pissed off is the interviewer's attitude of him knowing everything.
- The interview was scheduled for 1 hour and we went overtime, it's okay to go overtime by 5-10 minutes., But this guy is taking more than 20 minutes. He din't have basic ethics of valuing candidate's time.
This is not my first interview with ServiceNow, this is my second and I had same feelings in the first interview as well.
It's okay for me to not grab this opportunity, but think about someone who is really struggling to get a job during this tough time, because of the interviewer being lethargic.
Hope ServiceNow focuses on their interviewing system and improves it.

FWIW, it is more common happening than you know and I'm telling you this out of my own experience.
In my current organization, sometimes my manager asks me to take interviews. When I get candidates with 6+ or 7+ years of experience(I have 5 YOE) and tell him it would not be good and I would not be able to do justice to the candidate, he would start questioning my capabilities. He would say somewhat along the lines, "What? You can't atlrast ask basic questions?" Or "You can't google and ask questions about tools and Technologies?" Etc
And you know how it is in Indian companies, we cannot go against Managers.
The worst part was, I once got a candidate with 12 YOE. I flat out refused and said I can't take this interview. 2-3 year difference is fine but this is not acceptable. I think he also saw my point and left it at that. But I think he would have found someone who was willing to take 🤦. His point is there is an opening and there is a candidate available for interview. So you should take it.
This has happened to me as well, when I was interviewing, but it was one off an Incident.
But one thing is for sure, our recruiters/Hiring managers don't know what kind of candidates they are looking for and want a single candidate to know everything...EVERY SINGLE THING on the JD.

Good that you at least refused to interview the 12YOE,
Atleast at some point of time management would realise that it's a mistake and sometime they'll change.

May be that's the hint...
The hiring manager already decided to go with another candidate
And is sending a junior to field your interview, so that way the junior can get interview experience
And the manager can claim mentoring experience
HR lady's job is secure, because she gets to line up more candidates
Win win win for company
Loss for Candidate

Recently had an interview for the same designation. It was not a great experience.

How's Amazon btw, have an interview linked up for the day after tomorrow. Gurgaon location.

@BeingBlud

I had similar interview experience. The person just gave a hackerrank question and when I question about the description given, she just says- “just read it na”! These guys have such bad attitude.

"I recently had an interview for the BGLR location. I have to say, the interview was very descriptive and on point. There were no irrelevant questions, and everything felt like a conversation. The interviewers all had around 5-6 years of experience more than me. The three rounds were all about my work, and the final round with the manager was to see how I'd react when asked questions out of my comfort zone. I'd say the interviewers knew what they were looking for; each of them prepared a lot of questions, focusing on my CV and the companies I've worked for.
My two cents, if I have any, is that maybe the team you're interviewing for isn't great.
I really enjoyed the interview, and for context, I'm an SDET."

The first positive comments about the interview process with servicenow.
Good to hear that you had a positive experience 😊

Just forgot to add one more reason that, he was going through my resume lethargically for the first few minutes after joining 10 mins late. 🙄

This is nothing. Recently, I gave an interview at a company (top MNC) where the interview was supposed to happen for 1 hour. The interviewer joined 30 minutes late (that too after I called the HR) and he took the interview for 1 hour and 50 minutes…

@damn_user pity on you :-(

Omg, this is exactly similar to my experience with Servicenow last week. The interviewer even went on to say that they were looking for java folks and not python folks after the coding solution was done. Seriously!! That definitely proves he did not even care to go through my resume too.
Top interview questions in google were just read out for me to answer.
Seriously doubt the quality of people there.
