Trending @Infosys; Seeking guidance in Onsite and Career Decisions as a DSS

I’ve a total of 12+ YOE and recently completed two years at Infosys and have been selected as a DSS, which I’m thrilled about. As part of my career aspirations, I’m eager to explore onsite opportunities within my project to enhance my skills and contribute to global engagements. I recently discussed this with my unit anchor, but was told that “99% of people want onsite,” which left me feeling discouraged and uncertain about next steps. To provide context, I’ve cleared my AWS CCP certification and am preparing for the AWS SAA certification, as I understand certifications are key for DSS roles. However, I’m struggling to align my onsite aspirations with my current role and organizational expectations.

Additionally, I’d like to share some background for perspective. In my previous company, I worked onsite in Belgium as a full stack developer and performed well in my project. Due to unavoidable personal circumstances in my wife’s family, I had to return to India, and my former employer didn’t address my concerns about Indian CTC, leading me to join Infosys, which also has a presence in my native place. Recently, a client from my previous company reached out, expressing interest in having me return onsite for a project under their purview, as they valued my contributions. They suggested exploring opportunities through TCS or Cognizant, where they have projects, but this would involve joining one of these companies, securing a project under this client, and then going onsite - a path that feels achievable but complex.

I’m now at a crossroads and would greatly value the community’s insights. For those who’ve navigated onsite opportunities, how did you approach discussions with your anchor or project leads to make your aspirations a reality? Are there specific skills, certifications, or strategies that helped you stand out for onsite roles? Additionally, has anyone faced a similar situation with an external client opportunity? How did you weigh the pros and cons of switching companies versus pursuing growth within Infosys? Any advice on balancing these career decisions while maintaining stability would be immensely helpful.
