Seeking Advice: Misaligned Role Expectations and Work Hours Concerns
I was offered a project as an AIOps Engineer with an ML role (I have the email proof). Initially, I was given practice assignments aligned with the role, which made me optimistic about the opportunity.
However, after onboarding, I was unexpectedly assigned to work on the backend of a dashboard using Flask. When I expressed my concerns, I was reassured that the project required me to handle more than just ML tasks.
Later, a senior employee—after his last working day—confided that the ML project existed but was never assigned to me.
To add to my frustration, my email states that the job follows a general shift with occasional adjustments for US timings. Yet, I’m expected to:
- Report to the office before 11 AM
- Stay until after an 8:30 PM scrum call.
I now feel misled about both my role and work hours and would appreciate guidance on:
-
How to address this issue professionally?
-
Whether this situation warrants escalation to HR or higher management?
-
If this continues, what are my options for protecting my career path and well-being?
I’d be grateful for any insights or experiences you can share!

Typical tcs behaviour. No one will listen to you. Either you have to fight risking band or switch company. No other go.

Bro no one will help. Manager , HR, senior HR....you reach whoever you want to no one will even listen. Instead you will be on target every time. I have received mails from HR's and head management stating the same that employee's aspirations and skill set doesn't matter. What matters is the billing what they are getting from the client.
Answer to the first question.
To address this issue just accept that joining this company made you a slave here. And no one can help you if you don't stand for yourself.
Answer to the second question.
Escalation to whom, HR and higher management. It is like the victim is going to complain to the culprit itself against the culprit.
Answer to the third question.
Your options are to stand in front of the TCS office and shout and still nothing will happen else just be a slave and work.
Else ignore everything and try to leave this horrible company.

So my best course of action is to do nothing to get a release ASAP

None of your actions other than you completely stop working and be a complete moron for them and ruin your own reputation, can help. Then also if you will be released is not 100% sure. you cannot do anything to get released asap.

As of my experience, nothing will happen and moreover people in charge, least bother about the word commitment. People who worked here are given the lowest importance. Just check with your manager and HR once, if they can put you in your kind of project or else don’t fight with anyone. That will only give you more stress. Parallel search outside and find alternate company.
