Trending @Capgemini; Scrum call update

In the scrum call, during my turn, I gave an update like "There is nothing much, I've done all the basic checks and yesterday's work is in WIP". The next day my manager gave a lecture that we are not supposed to say like that highlighting "There is nothing much".

I told my manager that, people do use that word when there no important work to highlight in the call. But there was a disagreement.

Any thoughts??

Yes, you can't say like this. Your manager is right. You can say it in a different way like, I will continue to work on this, or I will be completing this today, or I am testing it, etc

I understood your point. But sometimes people say that, why he/she is saying such simple things. How do you avoid that?

You can explain the simple tasks in other words that reflect your efforts and hard work. Being straight forward in corporate doesn't work mostly!

Big or small never say you are free, because it makes a wrong impression on the client. They might ask managers why this guy has no work. Always say you have something to work on.

Don't say you have nothing, If you have something to work on just say I will focus on this task
If you have nothing just say I will check with the team if they need any help

The point is, I had work to do. But it wasn't big enough to say as an update.

Its kind of informal.. better to say its work in progress will show later on..
