How hard is it for someone to learn Salesforce by himself without any external tutor ? And can this be done if you want to switch your technology from something like SAP to Salesforce as there is lots of scope in Salesforce, and any recommended methods on how and where to start Salesforce and how much it would take a beginner to get a good idea of it ?

Learning Salesforce on your own is doable, especially with Trailhead. Transitioning from SAP is possible, but it takes dedication and time, maybe a few months.
