Road to prosperity

I have seen lots of post from young people which appears that they are trying to find the right direction in their life in TCS and as IT professional.

With years of experience working with different layers of people at different roles. I can offer you some advice which you may have read and heard before or may have experienced it also so it is kind of revision.

  • Ability of learning and improving. Never be contended with the shape of yourself. Keep on improvements especially in the area of communication.

  • Pick one area of expertise and keep on growing in that area. Never stick to technology always attach yourself to the area like cybersecurity, data analytics etc

  • Maintain good personality. Dress formally and be sophisticated in conduct. Any release of emotion should be guarded. Emotions should be like lake not like sewer

  • Employ the company. You should take yourself as business and See which company can help you grow. It is important that you setup your financial and career goals very early in life. So company should be your employee and you should see how well your goals are served by the company

  • Compensation is important but self happiness is more important. There may be company who will pay your more but then they will suck your life out of you. The prime of your life will be lost on some stupid project with unreasonable timelines and demands.

  • Take vacations. Your vacation is always as per your age. What you can enjoy at the age of 25, you cannot enjoy at the age of 50. So be it Goa or Kedarnath, you will enjoy more if you are young as you are more physically agile.

  • Be loyal to your work as your company, your manager may or may not give you something but your work always did and that thing is experience and learning.

  • Employment stagnation is the worst thing in life. At the average 3-5 years, keep on changing companies. If as senior, your job is at risk then at least have that risk at 50 laks then at 20 lakhs.

Very true. Specially " Pick one area....never stick to technology"... This is very important. I myself suffered this. sticking to one technology ( which in short term will be encouraged) is risky.

Excellent post. Yes most of them may be known facts but because of experience you've been able to put them in such a crisp manner that they will stick with me at least, don't know about others. Dhanyavaad 🙏🏻
