Ridiculous decision from TCS management
A recent business trip highlighted a frustrating reality: For a 500 km journey, employees are expected to travel 14 hours by train instead of taking a short flight. Why should one spend 14 hrs of personal time. How can one be expected to attend meetings, make critical decisions when organisation doesn’t value its employees. True cost optimization isn’t about squeezing employees; it’s about enabling them to deliver their best. In addition I am not sure abt local travel and boarding expense reimbursement. Already these ppl cheated me of flight tickets for prev trip telling various reasons. Managers should be responsible in taking such decisions as they are representing the org and not spending from their wallet.
Why did u agree to travel in first place by train... Are u doing some social service by giving 14 precious hrs of ur life to an organization that no longer follows Ethics and Values

Something is missing here. Usually all business travels are via flight, unless you are travelling somewhere remote which is a rare case. The process is to raise a travel request to the won/swon provided by the manager, once request is approved the travel desk guys reaches you out with the possible flight options and you have to confirm the one that you want. They'll do the tickets and send you back. Can pickup drop from home to airport and vice versa is dependent on grade - if C2 or below, you need to avail your own cab and then reimburse the same. C3A onwards airport travel is also included in the travel request. Any other expenses you can claim with the bill.
Abt this train travel, this went through Travel request and there is option to choose flight/train. Project team mentioned only train and TQ accommodation in mail. Pickup drop is provided along with travel request only for female employees as far as i know.
I have seen this earlier as well. Associates had to travel from Pune to Delhi for Visa interview and manager told to book flights on own payment to be reimbursed later. I think in our case it was done. Even i had to do it once while travelling from Dubai to India, book on my own and had to reimburse later

Same happened with me I went to Mumbai for my VISA interview, project team simply gave 1option to travel by train I declined later I have to bare the travel expenses from my own pocket. It was my first & and last business travel experience with TCS.
