Returning mom from sabbatical SAS / Data Scientist suggestions
Hi all, this is for a returning mother who used to work 4 to 5 years ago in Sas analytics for a bank. She wants to get back to the workplace now but feels skills are missing like Sas is not so much in use but tableu and python. Can someone suggest a few courses and right institute to get to a data scientist role from here and what all things are needed to learn. Location - bangalore.
TIA

She does not need institutes or courses.
She's already worked extensively in SAS, so she understands the concepts - ETL, statistical programming, reporting, visualizations etc.
All she needs now, is to learn is some new syntax - I would recommend learning both R language, as well as Data Science tools in Python. They can be learned quickly from any of the available free videos & playlists on YouTube (including channels like FreeCodeCamp).
Then, she can update her resume to show that in her past projects, apart from SAS, she had also used some R in some projects, and some Python in some projects for the same kind of work she was doing in SAS.
Then with this hybrid SAS, R, Python Data Science resume, she can smoothly transfer over her experience & skills to current job roles in the market.
There is no need to show abrupt switch of technology from SAS to R / Python after break. That will unnecessarily make things harder.
As she has experience of statistical programming & data science concepts in SAS anyway, so the transition to same kind of work in R / Python can be managed much more easily and smoothly, by showing her past resume as a hybrid of SAS, R, & Python based work.
Good luck to her! 👍

Thanks for your response and suggestions...what profiles work best from a reporting profile that she was in earlier when working to now.. w Although aspiration is towards data scientist roles
