My client isn’t asking for retention.. but my practice/BU is trying to retain me.

It's not a push from the client alone, if your project leadership is happy with you they will ask ur demand and also if the budget can be managed then you are retained

Yes high chances if client wants u retain then only possible otherwise they will simply ignore you
