Retention Bonus or hike?

I am really confused after seeing all the posts. I heard that August joiners are getting restructured compensation letters, where Retention Bonus itself is split into hikes. Means its not an actual hike. Just Retention Bonus is restructured for them! Will this be the same case for October joiners as well? Please someone help me to understand!
