Resign without job offer

Good evening everyone,

I’m a Senior Backend Engineer at a small startup in Bangalore, with close to 6 years of experience. My tech stack has been majorly MERN and distributed systems.

Recently for the past 2 weeks, I’ve been thinking of resigning because I felt I’m not performing to my best partly because I’m burnt out and party because of the product. I’ve been losing my sleep every night over this. So, today I pinged my CTO to inform of my resignation but he didn’t reply to my message.

Later in the afternoon, I got a call from a good MNC based on a referral for a backend opening. Upon discussing with the recruiter, the decided to not go forward because I lacked Java/Go experience. Up until that call, I was confident of cracking any interview with a solid 1/2 months preparation but now this has thrown me into a different thought process. So I’m reaching out to you guys.

  1. Will this work out? Has anyone recently been in the same boat? Recently because pre-2022 was a different landscape.

  2. I’m pretty confident in Java and planning to learn Go in this gap, but how can I put it to use in interview context.

  3. What do the recruiters think of a voluntary resignation? I’m also planning for an ankle surgery, so might use that as a reason too, but yeah.
