Resign or Sabbatical ?
All,
Seeking advice here , please . I’m a 41 year old IT middle manager . No liabilities , loans or EMIs. Networth 5 crore including 3 crore in liquid financial assets . Wife working a low stress IT job with around 50k in month . My take home around 2.1 per month . Steady state expenses around 80-90k per month . I will inherit a flat worth 1.5 crore so not worried about a home . Have a 2 year old daughter and no plans for more kids .
Like many of us , my job has proven extra stressful over the past 6 months with my company executing silent layoffs , me having to cope with a 12 hour working day every day including weekends and a very nasty boss .
My wife is ok with working herself and plans to continue . I have asked my company for a 3 month unpaid sabbatical after this project goes live . If they don’t give it , I plan to resign . If they don’t give the sabbatical , my wife wants me to continue working and get another , lower stress job . I would have been ok but for this deep prolonged bad tech job market
What should I be doing here ? What are my options ?

Hey, if your company is laying people off. I suggest you to request your manager to suggest the company to lay you off to get severance pay. Apart from that I ll advise to focus on looking for other opportunities, but I guess you can start barely minimum work and focus your other time to look out for opportunities and spending time with your 2 year old as this time won’t come back and you ll feel like she’s growing too fast. This way I guess everyone’s gonna be happy. Also start saying no to new tasks saying your plate’s already full.

Dont RESIGN without having job offer in hand. My personal past experience gave me learning,

First take care of your health. If they don't give you sabbatical, do something so taht they can lay you off. Otherwise, you yourself keep looking for a better job outside with a deadline to achieve this. If that doesn't work out, and you are not able to take it any more or you feel you can perform far better if given peace of mind, resign just that moment. Life always gives you a fair chance to get what you want or need. In the process, do accept everything as an experience and learning which would help you immensely in future.
