Remote job right after college

I graduated in May 2023 and joined a US-based remote startup as an SDE in September 2023. They don't have a physical office in India, so they hired me via Deel (https://www.deel.com/) as an independent contractor.

In the future, if I plan to make a switch, will I face any problems as all the documents state that I'm a contractor and not a full-time employee?

The full-time employees of the company also work remotely, so the experience I get is pretty much the same.

To add some more context, I participated in Google Summer of Code 2023 and received the offer to work full-time later. So it is an open source organization, and all the pull requests I make are publicly available on my GitHub profile, but I highly doubt that the HR team will consider that.

I really love working here, but if it'll create some difficulty in the future, then I might have to reconsider.

Help and suggestions would be really helpful.

No issues. The only problem would be when the new employer will try to contact your old employer (some do for background check). If your employer (like mine), does not want you to claim to be an employee/representative of the company, they will add it in a clause. If you and them are friendly with each other, they will help otherwise, it would be a little bit harder to get that background check cleared. But you can always ask your new employer not to contact your clients.

@PerfectCocoa Is it true that companies don't count "years of experience" when I work as an independent contractor? I need to be a FTE ?

@PerfectCocoa When we join a new company, they ask for 3 months payslip (right ?) and the payslip mentions that I'm a contractor. So I think they don;t even need to do a background check, it would be clearly mentioned.

I have experience of 1.5 years. Do let me know

Also I don't think there should be any problem in your case in future to switch as many ppl are doing this and more interested in this
