Register & file GST as a contractor

Hi, I work with clients outside India as an independent contractor. The law says that I should have GST registration in India.

How can I set up a GST account easily? How can I manage the paperwork? Is there a software or service that does it without much headaches? How much does it cost?

You don't need GST upto a certain amount of revenue (i think it's 20-30 lakhs). Plus export of services is exempt from GST. Best to check with a good CA.

Where do I find a good CA? I’m in Delhi. How much does it cost to work with a CA on GST?

Good CAs are hard to find and usually buried in work. I can recommend a guy in Delhi but he's not very prompt. Might be fine for basic personal work but maybe not company accounts.

You could do it manually, but it's not worth the hassle. Hire a CA for the same, will cost 5-8k for registration, and whole year of GST filings and ITR.

Seems like it’s for US accounting, not India?

It is better to register for GST if you are exporting, altogether budget for 10 k as CA expenses. You can apply for GST yourself, CA can be anywhere but you need a location to show as an office it can be your home as well.
