Reference of current manager for applying to job
Why would any company require this information? I understand they might want to do basic background check, but asking for phone number of manger during application is sneaky.
FYI, the company is Jar.

This is common technique followed by companies to head hunt. There are many good mangers who resume is not found online or they may not apply. Companies will post a job requirement for the certain role and when people apply they will ask for the manager's number and head hunt them. HR when doing Rangolis also come up with such psychotic ideas.
They might be following a particular hiring method which gives weightage to references.
Generally references are taken from past managers or colleagues. Looks like noob HR.
Can you not put a friend's number? Is that illegal?
