Recently Laid Off – Need Guidance on Documents, Severance Pay, and Next Steps
Hi everyone,
I was recently laid off from my job and I’m trying to understand what all I need to take care of before I formally exit. I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have been through a similar situation.
This was first job so i don't know what all need to be collected?
Exp - 3 Years Role - Support Role Learning- Stuck in support role caused no learning. Facing issues in cracking interview due to lack of skillset.
Thinking to take a break for 6 month and upskill & comeback again. Whats your suggestions?
Here are my main questions:
-
What important documents should I collect from HR before my last working day?
-
How much severance pay should i get?
-
What all final settlements should I ensure are included?
-
Any checklist or sample exit letter I should ask for?
I’d be really grateful for any insights, tips, or even personal stories you’re willing to share. Thank you in advance!

Upskill. Yes. But make sure to do it in a domain where AI has already been accepted and has high demand despite that. Take this advice with a pinch of salt, if you are not entering the IT world.

Wait, your HR has crucial documents related to you? Interesting. Most companies just take digital documents and have process in place to verify their authenticity, including BGV. So, no idea about it. I never gave any when joined. So, never got anything back when laid off (except for severance package and all leaves encashed).

That depends on your company. You don't get to decide that, unless your company is asking you the same question 💀👀
-
Everything. Reimbursements, salary balance, leave encashments, performance bonus, monetary benefits and severance pay.

No idea what is the purpose of this question.

Thanks ,will look for a domain where AI is accepted.
