Reality of taking a career break? Especially if you are a man where you can't easily hide under emotional duress?

Have any of you taken a career break and got back to work? Did you see any loss? Discrimination? Difficulty? Is it right decision to take a career break? I have no problem with savings I have it plenty. Am just worried about losing everything if there is a gap in my work timeline and if that will impact me from being hired again from say top firms or wherever? Please help.

Well, you don't take a career break. You freelance!

On a serious note though, don't have a career gap on your resume. Fudge it up and have something there. Have some bogus company name and give a friend's number as manager or HR number. Create a website and have that number in that website. But don't have a gap..

I have always taken 2-3 months break on every switch and ended up with a 40-50% hike every time. Never tried more than that...

Oh you can always say health issues(urs Or family members), had a bad break up, shaadi tut gayi and wanted to focus on self.. These are gender neutral things. I always tell them that i needed a break to figure out my next plan and i wanted to make a very well thought decision about my career. It always worked for me. I don't take multiple offers. Take one and stick with it..
