reality check for people who didn't get the hike they wanted:
In my 7+ yoe i have realised that the people who don't get the desired hike, generally don't deserve better (yet) or are in the wrong place.
Companies judge us on different parameters than we use for ourselves. We tend to live in our own bubbles and overestimate ourselves.
If you deserve better, you'll change jobs, if you are struggling, your manager/HR are right.
Yes you can fight with them, but it's rarely fruitful, choose your battles carefully. It's always better to leave (applies for relationships as well 😌)
Keep a growth mindset, if you believe you are valuable, focus on upskilling and prove it to yourself first, others will notice it automatically.
It's ok if this puts you in self-doubt, it's required for growth.

and as always, it's always a skill-issue

The problem is people who live in bubble and overestimate themselves, they don't realize that. They act entitled, fight with managers, and spread rumors about more skilled colleagues who are doing better as being favored over them and label it as favoritism.
