Query regarding Wifi router

Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask for some advice regarding Wi-Fi routers.

So, I’m currently staying in a PG, and the Wi-Fi router is placed just outside my room. The router brand is T-Link, and as far as I know, T-Link is quite a reputed company. I also checked with the PG owner about the broadband connection, and he told me that it’s Airtel. From what I’ve heard, Airtel usually provides good internet connectivity.

Now, I’ve been using the PG Wi-Fi, and most of the time, the speed is quite good. However, sometimes I feel like the connection lags — for example, when I’m browsing or working online, the screen takes a bit of time to load.

Today, I was on a call with one of my colleagues for around 15–20 minutes. Everything was fine at first, but at one point, I couldn’t hear her properly — maybe there was a network issue. I’m not sure whether it was from my side or hers. Apart from that one hiccup, the call went well.

But towards the end of the call, when she asked if I had any more questions, I said no and told her I’d ping her if I needed anything later. I also said thank you — but she didn’t reply. I waited for a few seconds, thinking maybe she didn’t hear me, or there was some connectivity problem. So I asked if I was audible, but she didn’t respond and ended the call abruptly.

That made me wonder if there was an issue from my side — maybe my Wi-Fi connection wasn’t stable at that moment. I was connected to the PG Wi-Fi, as I mentioned earlier. Since the router is T-Link and the broadband is Airtel, I feel it should provide good service.

I’ve been living in this PG for over two months now, and generally, the Wi-Fi speed has been very good. I’ve streamed YouTube videos, scrolled Twitter, and rarely faced any major connectivity problems. Sometimes, yes, the speed drops a little, but it’s quite rare.

Now, I’m considering buying my own router. I wanted to ask — which Wi-Fi router should I go for, and which company is best? I was thinking of buying one from Swiggy Instamart or Blinkit for convenience.

Also, if I do buy a router, how does the recharge process work? Do I need to insert a SIM card into the router, or is there some other way to activate and recharge it?

One more thing — I’m specifically looking for a wireless router, not a wired one.

Lastly, do you think I’m overthinking this? Should I just continue using my PG Wi-Fi since it’s mostly good? I also have mobile data, but since my work is completely online, I really need a reliable and stable internet connection.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

you might be overthinking this. Try using a wired connection if that's somehow possible in your pg. Try performing test meetings/calls with friends/colleagues if possible to check if the issue is actually on your end.
