Promotions Are NOT Just About Hard Work
If working hard alone got promotions, every dedicated employee would be a VP by now. The truth? Promotions are a mix of visibility, perception, and timing—not just effort.
Want to move up faster? Here’s how:
📌 Make your achievements known – Don’t assume your manager notices everything. Subtly highlight your impact in meetings and reports.
📌 Solve bigger problems – Promotions go to those who think beyond their role. Take initiative.
📌 Build relationships with decision-makers – If leadership knows and trusts you, your chances skyrocket.
📌 Ask for it – Many people miss out just because they never express interest. Timing matters.
Work smart, stay visible, and play the long game!

If you don’t get the next role within company just move out. Need not follow all that mentioned above. Only criteria is to remain relevant in the job market. Period. No need of highlight, no need of relationships with decision makers esp. no bootlicking. Solving problems is part of the job. No need to go above and beyond by working on Saturday or Sunday… Do your work smartly and solve problems with the right solution. Period.

Thanks for sharing your view.

I believe this works in early and to some extent mid career, but not in late career since you are entire value proposition is your network And that is what mostly gets you the job Again that's what i've been told by a senior of mine and reason behind is the opening tends to reduce a lot there and all hires are refferal at those positions and roles Prolly some one can confirm or deny this
