Trending @Cognizant; Project frustrated dood

Hi, I currently have 2.5 years of experience, with the last 4 months spent working in a support project. Before that, I worked as a full-stack web developer, which I was trained in and really enjoyed, even though it was harder. But this support role is quite easy and comfortable—mostly just monitoring incidents and reporting.

For this project, they forced me to visit the ODC, so I travel 45 km (about 2 hours) up and down, three days a week, just to attend online meetings. I also work in the US client’s afternoon shift. I have no teammates at the ODC—I'm the only person from this location. My friends are in a different office.

In just two months, I’ve noticed changes in my physical and mental health. I feel alone, mentally exhausted, and even depressed. I'm pushing myself to complete tasks even though I have no interest in them. I spoke to my manager, but he convinced me to "adapt to business needs" and said it's hard to find projects outside, so I should make use of this opportunity.

I had planned to ask for a release in March, but my department lead informed me that I’m eligible for an April cycle A promotion. Now, I’m at a breaking point, struggling to control my frustration.

I have two choices:

  1. Get a release in March and search for a developer role, but without the promotion.

  2. Push through for two more months, get the promotion, and then leave. But asking for a release right after a promotion feels shameful, so switching companies would be my second option.

Which one you prefer?

There's no shame in grabbing a better opportunity . Take promotion and leave

Get promotion, start job search, get 3 months pay slip, make sure dates and other EPF data are accurate and switch.

About the office visit, we can't expect logic from management and companies. They only care about control and money. The only solution to that is to accept the reality of the world we are living in. The sooner you accept and proceed forward, the better for your life and mental health.

I would be more worried about the long term career impact of working in support work. Try to move back to full stack dev when moving out of here.
