Do hiring managers not go ahead with a candidate if they feel intimated or feel the candidate is better than them?

You know you have answered most questions well but you get a rejection mail after 3 rounds of interview.

Especially if it is the hiring manager.

I second this. Has happened to me twice. Answered everything to the T and got rejection mail in just 6 mins after interview. When reverted and asked for a reason.. The HR ghosted!

I feel sometimes being stupid or projecting dumb can work wonders but feels risky though.
