Preoject release

I have 12yrs of experience and for past 6months I’m struggling to get release from the project as its not relevant to my skillset. So am planning to drop resignation and demand release to stay back. Yes i know its a high risk as market is not good but it pays-off in other organisations.

I wanted to understand does anyone have taken this step to a success? How to proceed with this?
