Trending @Infosys; Pre-production/bench

I have been mapped to a project 20 days back but from then only sometime i stay on pre-production then on unit bench then again pre-production and then again bench , got mail for production that it will start soon but they again put on unit bench ....is it common ? How much time will it take to be on production...if anyone could explain this ???
