You can be at your best when you do is because it's something that you like to do. If you monetize it, you may end up optimising for more revenue/profit, ultimately leading to low quality output, as well as degrading interest in pursuing the same further ahead.

Topmate is doing this right. Although I wouldn't mind paying for it (why freebies?), I have strong views on the ridiculous amount of money some folks charge over there.

This is much needed service but very few will pay for it.
