This is a big myth that politicians cannot run a sports body effectively. By that logic only army man can become the president. Only a doctor can become a health minister and only the head of police force or a judge can become the law minister.
This mindset is what we ended up with IAs/IPS. Write an exam and you can automatically become the ruler.

By that logic name any public body run efficiently?. iMA is run by doctors, has any kidney stealing doctor been punished?. Icai is run by CAs, is it run efficiently?. Judical system is run by lawyers is that efficient?.
This whole discussion that sports not being run by sports people is the reason of India failure in sports is a myth.
Every coach is not an Olympic medalist. Infact the best coaches are not even former players.
