PM interview Tips for Zomato

Hi guys,

I wanted to know what all to expect during PM interview rounds at Zomato? Any specific area they focus on? Any specific structure of answers they prefer? What qualities do they look in the candidate? This interview is for the PM role. Folks who have experienced the interviews or are in Zomato working in product management, do let me know your two cents!

Gave an interview for Zomato, 6 months ago. Got rejected in the final round with the CTPO.

  1. I1 : SPM of a pod took the interview, calm guy. It was a product case study. This guy was completely focused towards the approach. Framed the questions in a way where I had to go deep into the why of the problem. I fumbled at one point but asked for help, he navigated me how he wanted me to think and i was able to navigate back from there.

  2. I2 : SPM of another pod. This guy came with a consulting background, so he was looking for straight answers. Questions were mainly around metrics and data analysis based insights. No whys behind the approach. I was able to analyse what he was looking for after 30 minutes passed and then maintained a crisp approach. Feedback that he gave me was, not all questions have to be answered in 3 minutes at times I need to analyse what is being asked and then just give an overview in 30 seconds.

  3. I3 : CTPO. I prepared for a case study here but then the interview took a behavioral route. Wasn't well prepared for that, ended up being too candid and that's where I fucked up. What I could've done better was being a little diplomatic about my answers. At the end of the day, the leadership wants to hire someone who feels easy to work with but my honesty didn't reward me here and painted a negative image. Rejected after this.

My 2 cents : Try to evaluate in the first 10-15 minutes what route the interview is taking. A quick background check of the interviewer based on their past work experience from LinkedIn helps. A consulting guy turned freshly (3-4 years) into a PM would be metrics heavy and would want straight answers v/s someone who has started out with PMing itself might take a more exploratory route. Anticipate that a curve ball might get thrown at you anytime, prepare well for case study, guesstimates, metrics and behavioural questions. Don't be way too candid, corporate doesn't reward that.

All the best for your upcoming interviews!

I1 : Design the home screen for district. I2 : A guesstimate around dining out business and then follow up questions to scale it further + A excel sheet which had some metrics and based on that I had to plan where to launch and answer the why behind it + How can I make dineout better. I3 : Past work experience and behavioural questions.

Hey! Zomato’s PM interviews focus heavily on product thinking, user-centric design, and execution. Expect case-style questions around improving features, solving user problems, or driving growth. They appreciate structured answers with clear problem statements, solutions, and metrics. Culture-wise, they value ownership, speed, and being scrappy. Knowing the app well and showing data-driven thinking can really help!

Zomato’s PM interviews typically focus on:

Product sense (how you’d improve their app/features)

Metrics-driven thinking (e.g., "How would you measure success for Zomato Pro?")

Execution (trade-offs, prioritization)

Practice breaking down problems with a clear structure (e.g., CIRCLES framework). Since data fluency is key, brush up on basic analytics—it’ll help you stand out.
