I’m at level 12 in a support role, its like non tech. I spend most of my time sending emails and I’m feeling very depressed about my career. I was decent in Java, but I’m forgetting everything now. How can I switch roles or ask for a different position there is no dev role in current project ? As a fresher, I’m worried that if I ask for a different role, they’ll put me on a PIP. I’m also considering switching companies, but I have no work experience in any other tech field. Please guide me on what I should do? ://
They will not put you on PIP because that’s related to your performance in project.So that is different scenarios,
You can take it positive as may be if you have more time in support project as you don’t need to dig anything from yourselves, all you need to do copy-paste.

And i think you need to work on your skills and try your next switch for any of product based company.
