Planning to Move to Goa

Hello everyone,

My spouse and I have been thinking about relocating to Goa to enjoy a slower pace of life compared to the hustle and bustle of Bangalore. We’re financially comfortable enough to take on low-stress work (part-time, freelancing, or even something just to stay occupied), so the move would mainly be about lifestyle.

I’d love to hear from people who’ve made a similar move:

How is Goa as a place to settle down or retire?

Is it easy to find like-minded people and build a community there?

How are the schools (for families who may be considering moving with kids)?

What is the quality and availability of healthcare and hospitals like?

Would really appreciate your insights and experiences.

If you're looking for a slower pace of life, Goa isn't what it used to be, compared to even the last 3 years. Not trying to dissuade you, but everyone has had the same idea as you, and they come here, and now the city is just like any other. Take a drive down from Panjim to morjim and you'll see what I mean. What used to be a 30 minute drive is now 1hr+. The roads are absolute shit. 90% of the people living here are migrants who don't care about the state or its well being and the state is getting worse by the day, because the govt couldn't give two shits about it either.

But ofcourse, there's people that make the move and love it here. So yes, there are sunny days, the weather isn't great all year round. If you're in tech, finding a community may be difficult but finding a community around a hobby might be something you could do.

There are a couple of good private schools, like gera and sunshine. Good private hospitals like apollo, manipal, vision.

tldr: Goa isn't what it used to be, govt is very corrupt/unstable, lots of unruly migrants (not targetted towards you) which has increased the crime rate significantly over the past few years.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response, appreciate it Point taken about the heavy commercialization and the corrupt govt

I feel everyone in BLR is hustling a lot and dont have mental space for some meaningful discourse. Hence want to move to some place where people talk about stuff other than money

No ola uber etc would be available in Goa. Even autos are not that common.
I don't know how it's currently but a few years ago it was like that. I understand this won't be an issue if you have your own car/bike but I just thought you should know about the transport situation there

Wow thats not great. Even with own car/bike sometimes ola/uber are still necessary

Schools are good, Healthcare is also decent. You may need to get adjusted to the weather, it's humidity compared to Bangalore. Can be easily managed by air conditioning your house.

If being in a full time job is not mandatory, it's good to go in my opinion. Great place to switch off and live a peaceful life

Thanks a lot for your response.

Does Goa have good apartment or villa communities? We’d like our kids to be able to settle in easily, make friends, and have access to activities within the community itself, similar to what we find in Bangalore.
