PHD in IIT-D in India

Like getting into research if you're going abroad and to a good college makes sense - doing a Phd in stanford or whetever will take you far - I'm wondering what the value of a similar degree in IITs is? I know someone who just got into a phd program in IIT D and wwas curious about this.
