People who have pursued higher studies (masters/MBA), are the returns worth spending 50L-1cr?

I'm an SDE-2 with three yoe and I am planning to do masters probably in the US. I'm still in the deciding phase whether to leave my job and pursue masters or not.

  1. Why did you decide to go for higher studies?
  2. How did you plan the finances? Did you get a student loan?
  3. How good is the ROI? In terms of paycheck/opportunities post higher studies
  4. Did you come back to India or stay there, why?
  5. [Trigger] If it's about upskilling, can't I just do a scaler course instead?

The main aim of doing masters in US is to get a green card in the future. So, yes it is worth it.
The best part is if lucky you can get your green card and then if your return to India, even a person with mediocre knowledge will be paid big money in India.
Mediocre in US standards would mean top notch talent in India.
