Onsite Benefits and Salary

Hi TCSers,

Amid this layoffs season, I kept performing my best and even though my manager said promotion isn't possible, and we all know about hikes. I wasn't really hopeful.

I was looking for opportunities outside and my client from Sweden who is on friendly terms with me said we will get you onsite here in Sweden.

Now I was excited ofcourse, but I'm well aware that it takes sometimes 3 months - 2 years because that's how it has been for previous members in my team.

I want to know your views on the following:

  1. Is it better to switch, I have given 3 interviews and I have passed 2, 2nd round scheduled for one and for other no info yet, even after follow ups.

  2. Let's say I somehow convinced my client by Mar-2026 that I'm an indispensable resource and I have to be there onsite to continue my work, then what will be my compensation? Will it be entirely in their currency? Or partly indian/and partly theirs. FYI - I'm C2, with 4 years and 6 months experience. Usually how does the compensation be decided for onsite? (Is it based on current Indian comp, or client decides, or HR negotiation? Or anything else?)

  3. In this market, I'm just hoping for 20-30% increase if I switch to another company, I know I'm targeting low, but there are so many news that companies aren't hiring, layoffs, so any suggestions of % increment target based on your market understanding? FYI - I'm data analyst with experience in Python, Databricks, SQL, ML, structured learning (foundation only)

  4. Lastly, I'm sometimes wondering countries like Sweden, Germany, UK will have high taxes, so isn't it just better to stay here and stay with family peacefully? Because I'm aware the onsite people have lots of pressure and most importantly i will miss my family.

I'm just constantly thinking about all these things nowadays and instead of working, atleast 2 hours in went on imagining different scenarios, etc.

  1. So my final question is, what you would have done if you were in my case.

1.The onsite deal is not controlled by clients alone. There are multiple parameters involved in this. And, it's getting tougher and tougher nowadays.

2.Onsite salary depends on your salary and grade and you don't have any power to negotiate.

3.In your salary range, you can expect a hike between 50%-100% in a good company

  1. It's all different perspectives.
If you draw a good salary, India is better in a lot of ways.
But, the quality of life gets changed when you move to onsite. Tax shouldn't be a big problem. Pressure also varies from roles. Missing family is a personal thing

  2. If I don't have any visibility of the onshore within 6 months and I can grab an offer of at least 50% in a reputed firm, move on from this firm.
I put 50% considering you don't have an innovator salary.

Thank you @RightWetbar. It makes sense to not be stagnant and move if things are uncertain 👍
