One day overlap causing problem in Background verification

The last day at my previous company and the first day at my current employer is same. I am working in current company for six months but now it is causing some problems they have given me show cause notice for the same, to which I have replied, I did not intend to do so. Have any one in your known ever faced this problem, what did they do.
