Is it safe to change the joining date in first company offer letter and show it to second company for counter offer? Will the second company do background check if my first offer is valid?

If your previous company pays you pf, then all the details will be mentioned in the pf like joined date and last working date, if they do not match then the background verification will be rejected

Yes they will. They can enter your pan number and get an idea of when your pf account was linked with the current company. So yes, its nit worth it
